There are two methods of constitutional change: formal and informal.

The Formal method is the one that is listed in Article 5 of the US Constitution, which means that it needs to be proposed by 2/3 of both houses of the Congress o 2/3 of state legislatures that request the Congress to call a national convention to propose amendments.

The Amendment needs to be ratified by 3/4 of all state legislatures or by a vote specially called ratifying conventions that are called by 3/4 of the states.

But also, there is another method of constitutional change that is called informal because it is not listed on the Constitution. They are the judicial interpretation, which reads the constitution in a way that is interpreted so it is always updated according to our present times. This also means that the Judicial Branch can consider actions taken by the national government unconstitutional. This method is very important, without it the Constitution would be plastered, and would need to be changed all the time so it could be updated. With the informal constitutional change, the same text can be interpreted differently, adapted to the cultural changes.
