smith never smoked or drank bible and gun a constant  companion , he is smart work with native Americans  the crow sell him horses ,show ancient shortcuts nurse his sick men back to health, smith uses his skill to open up  west for the vast fur trapping profits

he was hunted by a grizzly this is how smith's friend James  writes: "the grizzly did not hesitate ,spring on the captain breaking his ribs,and cutting his head." but he was back and pushes on

smith was smart , hunter ,survival ,frontier grit, rugged individualism.the trials he forges become settler path ,wagon train , roads.
