Historical causation is the effort to determine contemporary and past events to their origin causes. Causation performs an essential part in producing a consistent and understandable information of the past. As the knowledge of history is a knowledge of events, the historian continues questioning "why" till he gets to a conclusive solution or situation. So he asserted causation is recognized the vast fundamental pillar of historical study.

giant impact theory - the moon was formed from the collision between earth and another mars-sized body.

colliding planetesimals hypothesis - the moon was formed from the same cloud of material as earth.

capture hypothesis - the moon was locked into orbit by earths gravity as it was passing by it.

accretion hypothesis - the moon was formed from collisions and combining of planetesimals.
