Parental notification, in lieu of active parental permission, is allowed when an IRB has approved a waiver of the requirement for parental permission. IRB stands for Institutional Review Board. This board protects the rights and welfare of human subjects., assures that all applicable institutional policies and federal regulations related to research with human subjects are followed and reviews subject recruitment materials and strategies.

IRB stands from Institutional Review Board. This institution is also popularly known as IEC (an Independent Ethics Committee), REB (Research Ethics Board), or ERB (Ethical Review Board). IRB is like a committee who applies the ethics of the research by reviewing the research’s methods proposed to make sure that the methods are ethical. In the USA, the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) and Department of Health and Human Services empower IRB to require modifications in research, approve, or reject certain researches that violate human’s rights.
