What would happen if we didn't have freedom of speech?

if we didn't have freedom of speech we could not oppone and express idea that are different from the majority of people or different from whoever is in charge. Freedom of speech is a natural right, and we have it because we are humans, so if we did not have it that would be a loss for our freedom to act and express our own opinion.
