Danae was the daughter of the king of Argos, Acrisius, and Eurydice. An oracle warned Acrisius that the son of Danae would be the cause of his death and, therefore, decided to lock his daughter in a dungeon sealed with bronze doors. However, the oracle had to be fulfilled so that Zeus loved Danae, and in the form of golden rain came into the chamber and fertilized it. Thus the prediction was made and Perseus was born. When Acrisio knew what had happened, he refused to believe the story of divine origin.
