Skinner claimed that children learn most of their vocabularies by observing how the language is being used by other people around them. Over years , that children would understand the meaning of each words and how to implement it properly.

From this view, Skinner make the assumption that if the parents do not talk very much, the children would have less vocabularies to observe. This make the children grow up to have smaller vocabularies.
