Martha is playing a simple card game with her toddler son. the cards are similar to the playing cards used by adults, but the suits are similar shapes—square, circle, triangle, diamond. martha's son has little trouble sorting the cards by either number or shape, except when the sorting rule changes. he has trouble switching from sorting by color to sorting by shape, and vice versa. martha's son is demonstrating:
