The senate is the final body that can impeach an official or it may choose to acquit the charged official. Two-thirds of the senate have to vote for the official to be convicted, after which the person is removed from office. The conviction may also disqualify the individual from holding the office in the future. Besides voting, the senate also listens to witnesses and views the evidence brought before them.  

If the impeachment hearing is for a president, the chief justice of the nation oversees the hearing.
