The country was under the rule of Britishers for almost a century until in 1947, the rule finally came to an end after Indian Independence Act 1947 came in effect. The country gained freedom where majority of the citizen were of Hindu religion.

Mohammad Ali Jinnah was the man who came up with the ideology of two-nation theory: Two separate nations for Hindus and Muslims. Pakistan was to become the nation for the Muslim minority that resided in India. According to Jinnah, Pakistan would become the symbol of awakening of Muslims. The partition became a violent affair in which many people were separated from their families, death toll was high and a rift between the nations was created that exists till this date.
