The word survey is usually used to mean to gather information. A survey research is one that involves interviewing or discussing with a group of persons for a short-while on a selected subject area.

This can be done using a series of questions put together as questionnaires where the responses of these persons are collected. It can also be done through survey interviews, where the individuals are being asked some questions for them to respond.
