In Act IV scene i of the play, the four protagonists- Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius were found to be sleeping in the woods. After they were woken up, Lysander revealed hos plans of eloping with Hermia to Athens. This infuriated Egeus, Hermia's father who had wanted Demetrius to be married to Hermia. But Hermia wants to marry only Lysander, which led to his father accusing him of trying to rb him of his daughter. he exclaimed to Demetrius that Lysander is trying to "defeat you and me,  You of your wife and me of my consent,  Of my consent that she should be your wife." He wants the Duke to punish Lysander and thereby prevent him from marrying Hermia, demanding "the law, the law, upon his head."
