One of the largest interest groups in the United States is the American Association for Retired Persons (AARP). Some members of this organization do not agree with all the goals pursued by the organization, but they contribute money to it anyway because they receive many benefits by being AARP members. For example, AARP members receive discounts at restaurants and hotels. By offering these exclusive benefits to members to entice them to contribute, the AARP is using to help solve its collective action problem.
