As gas prices increase, sources of alternative energy continue to increase in popularity. The map below shows the distribution of solar energy on the surface of the Earth. If Solar Corp, a solar power company, wants to build a new solar harvesting plant, in which region does it make the least sense for them to start? The image shows a map of the United States with Alaska and Hawaii inset. The map shows a variety of levels of monthly average daily total radiation. The map is color-coded with reds showing the highest levels of radiation, yellows showing the mid-range levels of radiation, and browns and khaki colors showing the lowest levels of radiation. The colors appear on the map in the following concentrations, from east to west: the northeast is predominately brown, beige, and neutral colors. The mid-Atlantic states are beige, tending toward the yellow colors further south. The Southern states are yellow with some beige and khaki further north. The states around the Great Lakes are predominately beige, with some yellows westward. The states in the middle part of the country, starting with Texas in the south and ending with North Dakota, become more yellow, with some orange and reds in the western portions. The Northwestern states, including Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington are more beige with some yellows. The southwestern states including California are mostly orange and red. Alaska is mostly beige with some khaki in the extreme north. Hawaii is almost entirely yellow. Public Domain Central and Northern Plains Southeastern U. S. Southwestern U. S.
