During that time, Germany, financially and in many other aspects, was in a crippled state.  The currency inflated at insane rates and the economy basically ground to a standstill.  Hitler blamed easy scapegoats, such as weak leaders and the Jewish people.  The German people, a traditionally proud race, were quick to agree.
