The situation Brandon is in is sharpening his senses and preparing him to run or fight.

Based on this, we can state that:

When Brandon forces his eyes to see something that is causing the dog to b, his eyes send a series of electrical signals to the occipital lobe in the brain.The occipital lobe, in turn, allows the brain to recognize the images captured by the eyes.As Brandon cannot see what is causing the dog, he is afraid.This fear promotes the release of epinephrine in the body, which is a hormone known as adrenaline, which prepares the body to run, fight, or do other activities that require great energy.Epinephrine stimulates the heartbeat and forces the peripheral nervous system to emit signals that cause Brandon to grip the dog's lead more tightly.

All of this reaction that takes place in Brandon's body is a result of natural selection, as ancestral humans who felt this type of reaction were more likely to survive the dangers that arose. This allowed them not only to survive, but to pass this ability on to their descendants.

To perceive depth Binocular vision is been used and when Brandon looks out into the forest, he make use of binocular vision to determine how far away objects are in the forest where he was able to make uses of the concept of the figure-ground relationship to identify trees and other figures in the forest as separate from the background.

The act of seeing or looking itself requires transduction in which the light that hits his eyes undergoes a process that is called photo-transduction in which light is converted to electrical signals which then move through different types of cells. Ultimately these signals are sent to a part of the brain called the occipital lobe where they are converted into an image in the brain.

Brandon's dog begins to growl as a result of natural selection. Dogs who growled at potential predators were more likely to scare away the predator and survive. As a result, the dog growls when it sees a potential predator. When Brandon's dog starts growling, Brandon becomes fearful that there might be something in the forest. As a result of this fear, his body initiates a sympathetic response, releasing epinephrine into the body. This epinephrine acts on the heart and causes his pulse to increase. He also utilizes his peripheral nervous system to increase the strength of his grip on the leash
