The Monsoons in South and Southeast Asia are characterized by too much moisture and floods. People living in these regions have had to learn how to adapt to these floods which include the building of stilts which allows high flood waters to pass through the region without destroying villages.

Another type of structure built to adapt to monsoons are the floating buildings in villages near the Tonle Sap Lake. The structures were built to rise and float on the water as needed and helps in flood reduction.
