IQ Rules the World is group that wants to change how US citizens use the Internet to learn new job skills. They are holding a contest for its members to create the best new computer program to help people learn new job skills. When Julie tried to enter, she was told by Mr. Poston, the group’s leader, that she could not because she was not a member. When she tried to join the group, he told her that she couldn’t because she didn’t “look like somebody who has a high IQ.”

Julie called her friend Delores and told her the story. When they checked social media, they discovered that 10 other people had been denied membership for the same reason. They also learned that the group is having a rally at the skate park in four weeks to announce the contest winner. Julie and Delores decided to hold a protest demonstration against IQ Rules the World. In addition to the protest, they are going to start a petition addressed to the mayor, asking her to pass a law that stops organizations from denying people based on looks.

Write an essay that explains the causes and effects of this situation; also explain how the First Amendment protect Julie and Delores in this story.
