En sociología, los estereotipos son ideas preconcebidas que la sociedad tiene con respecto a otro grupo, en otras palabras, se trata de generalizaciones sobre diferentes grupos o personas debido al grupo al que pertenecen (puede ser positivo o negativo). Un prejuicio es similar a un estereotipo, pero el prejuicio es una idea preconcebida negativa.

Por ejemplo, en el enunciado "las personas de China son buenos en matemáticas" sería un estereotipo pero no un prejuicio pues no se trata de algo negativo.
