Waxing Crescent: The waxing crescent phase is the moon's first step toward fullness. And it's a very visible shift — the moon is completely invisible (while it's new) until a tiny sliver is illuminated

First Quarter: First Quarter Moon is the second primary Moon phase when the Moon has reached the first quarter of its orbit around Earth, hence the name.

Waxing Gibbous: Waxing means that it is getting bigger. Gibbous refers to the shape, which is less than the full circle of a Full Moon, but larger than the semicircle shape of the Moon at Third Quarter.

Full Moon: The full moon is the lunar phase when the Moon appears fully illuminated from Earth's perspective

Waning Gibbous:Waning means that it is getting smaller. Gibbous refers to the shape, which is less than the full circle of a Full Moon, but larger than the semicircle shape

Last Quarter: The moon has moved another quarter of the way around Earth, to the third quarter position. The sun's light is now shining on the other half of the visible face of the moon

Waning Crescent:During the Waning Crescent Moon phase, the illuminated part of the Moon decreases from the lit up semicircle

New Moon:the phase of the moon when it first appears as a slender crescent, shortly after its conjunction with the sun.

When we observe the sky daily for some days , we find that the moon changes it shape every day. It is called phases of moon.

When the moon forms and angle of 0° from the plane of earth's orbit, the whole dark part of the moon faces towards the earth and hence any part of moon is not seen i.e a new moon (M1) . After 24 hours , when the moon forms and angle 12° with the plane of its orbit, a little bright part of the moon faces towards the earth and a minimum part of the moon is seen bright. It is called waxing crescent.(M2). When moon forms and angle of 90° the bright part of moon is seen in the form of hemisphere which is called a first quarter(M3). When moon forms an angle of 168° ,very little part of the moon remains in the dark which is called waxing gibbous( M4). When moon forms an angle of 180° from the plane, the moon is seen completely round which is called the full moon. When moon forms and angle of 192° from the plane, very little part is covered by darking and it is called a waning gibbous( M6). When a moon forms an angle of 270° the moon is seen in the form of hemisphere again which is called last quarter(m7). When a moon forms an angle of 384°< very little part of moon is seen in the sky and it is called waning crescent (m8). After completing an angle of 360° by the moon in its orbit again, then new moon occurs.
