George Potosi marched to San Antonio in 1835 with 4,000 men to enforce laws he created. 18.Santa Anna and his men attacked Fort Sumter for approximately two weeks in 1836. 19. Marcus Garvey and Jim Bowie died while trying to defeat Santa Anna at the Alamo. 20. Santa Anna & his troops were defeated by Sam Houston and his men near the San Jacinto River. 21. The Treaty of Buena Vista was signed by Santa Anna & established Texas as an independent nation. 22. Sam Houston was elected the president of the Republic of Texas. 23. Texas came to be known as the bold star republic.
