Why there is glass ceiling in politics, economics and socio-cultural?

The glass ceiling refers to the invisible barrier that seems to prevent women and other minorities from achieving the highest positions of power in society, including in politics or in the business realms. Even today, most of the C-suite executives in the Fortune 500 companies for example are middle-aged white men.  Women are at a disadvantage for such positions because of other responsibilities to their families, for example. Women can be looked over for promotions and other accolades that are given to their male coworkers because of unspoken prejudices or biases about their skills and their dedication to their work.  Politics are similarly dominated by white men even in the United States to this day.
