The choices were made by her brother's over Vasanti's life to help her by giving loan, which impacted her not to be a dependent person on her brothers.

By deciding not to be dependent upon her brothers, she decides to join SEWA, and take back control of her life by paying all the debts- to her brother and SEWA.

The story of Vasanti can be found in the book written by Martha C. Nussbaum, titled 'Creating Capabilities: The Human Development Approach'.

In the book, the author narrates the stories of several women, of which Vasanti is included.

Vasanti is a small woman aged nearly thirties. She lives in Ahmedabad, Gujrat. Her husband in an alocholic and abusive towards her. After her husband got vasectomy, rendering her childless and victim of domestic violence, she decides to leave him and live with her family.

After she starts living with her brothers, they decided to help her and gave her loan to buy machine. Knowing that her brothers also have responsibility of their own family and children, and no longer they might support her, she decides not to live a dependent life. The decisions made by her brothers to help her impacted her to live an independent life.

By deciding to live an independent life, Vasanti joins SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association). By working in the organization, she began earning 500 rupees per month, through which she paid off her debts to her brother and to SEWA also. So, by deciding to live an independent life, she takes back control of her life.
