The number of unauthorized immigrants from Mexico to the United States has been declining since 2007. Given the push and pull factors underlying people’s reasons for migrating, what might account for this decline?

People could be getting across the border illegally and not being caught therefore the total number of people known to be in the country illegally is not correct. Poverty and violence is prevalent in America as well and some people would just be moving from one poor place to another. Corporations have moved out of America and into Mexico due to taxes for corporations in America being increased. This means there are less jobs in America and more in Mexico. America also loses out on 100% of taxes they could have gotten from the company since they have ran them off and Mexico now gets the money instead which will help their country's infrastructure and stabilize life in Mexico more which will lead to less people leaving. Economic reasons is the most common reasons people come to America illegally. Wages in America are not increasing much which means employers no longer save as much money by hiring someone to do work under the table. People here illegally often get hired for jobs before Americans, because the employer can pay them less and therefore have more profit. Since wages are not increasing the gap in pay is diminishing. Americans now have a better chance at getting a job and not having it taken by someone in the country illegally which means it is harder for people here illegally to find work which decreases the incentive to come. Illegal immigration to Canada by people south of America's border has also increased which means people that previously would have illegally lived in America went to Canada illegally instead which decreases the total number of people illegally in America. In 2008 Obama took presidency and in his time in office he deported more people than any other president in U.S. history. Even if Trump was president 4 more years and continued deporting people here illegally at the same rate he is currently doing it he would still not deport as many people as Obama. The country is cracking down on illegal immigration due to the amount of money it costs the nation and crime it causes. As more people are deported it sends a message to others that they are not allowed to come illegally and stay. This causes a decrease in people coming to the country illegally.
