Algunas diferencias y semejanzas entre estas sociedades:

- La mitología griega representaba a los dioses como figuras humanas y figuras animales. Los romanos en sus comienzos utilizaban animales u otros objetos.

- En épocas de guerra, los ciudadanos griegos se hacían con las armas para servir, los romanos tenían un ejército profesional y obligatorio.

- Los griegos creían en la libertad y derechos de los hombres en general, por ello tomamos tantos aportes de esta sociedad. Los romanos sólo distinguían entre romanos, esclavos y los que pueden ser esclavos.

- Los griegos inventaron la democracia, un sistema muy importante para la humanidad ,y los romanos por otra parte concibieron la república.

- Los griegos surgieron primero en términos históricos, se consolidaron como un imperio y una civilización en tiempos más añejos que los romanos, los cuales surgirían después.

- La escritura de ambos era distinta.

- Los griegos aceptaron la homosexualidad como un rasgo social no comop una aberración. Los romanos lo consideraban un acto impuro de corrupción del cuerpo y del hombre.

- Los griegos no tenían una sociedad donde fuesen dueños de los esclavos, era una relación empresarial. Los romanos se creían dueños de la vida y el alma de los esclavos.

Por otra parte, comparten lo siguiente:

- El poder en Grecia y Roma se dividió de forma parecida, al formar grandes imperios, básicamente podían haber conflictos al recaer todo el poder sobre una sola persona.

- Ambas civilizaciones confirieron gran importancia a los dioses y supersticiones que dieron fruto a los oráculos, entre otros.

- Ambos tienen tradición de culto al cuerpo humano, principalmente del hombre, lo cual podemos notarlo en la manifestación de sus artes.

- Fueron durante gran parte de su existencia, civilizaciones puramente terrestres, a pesar de tener la costa del mar mediterráneo a sus pies.

- En la producción de bebidas, ambos produjeron vino, aceitunas y uvas.

- La formación de los soldados era la falange.

- Eran sociedades patriarcales, las mujeres eran consideradas inferiores a pesar de tener ciertos derechos adquiridos tras el matrimonio.

- El imperio persa fue su mayor enemigo.
