Safety equipment like fire extinguishers and fire blankets are used to prevent accidents.

The word prevent means "to ensure something doesn't happen". In this case it refers to all the things that need to be done to avoid a fire. The Health and Safety Authority states that three things must be taken into consideration for an effective prevention strategy: heat, oxygen and fuel. One or more of this elements must be removed in order to avoid a fire.

In this case the fire extinguishers and the fire blankets are tools to fight the fire, the are used when the other prevention methods have failed.

Nevertheless they are used to prevent a fire to become bigger and a major risk.
