Where does a squad leader assume his post when the squad drills as a seperate unit and is in column formation?

The squad leader will assume his post with the squad drills separates in a unit and is in a column formation in a way of taking three steps towards the left direction and he or she will therefore position in the center of his or her squad. This is already a common knowledge for the squad leader for it is his or her role of doing this during situations like that.
