The use The direct method and indirect method.

The data from the direct method is acquired by analyzing the vital statistics of all individuals  (from this demographer could obtain data such  as marriage status, whether the person is an immigrant, place of residence , etc)

The indirect method is taken from the data of only a portion of the population to inquire data about the entire group and often taken from historical data. From this, demographer could obtain information regarding preference, common behavior, etc.
