Federalist #70 the benefits that a strong presidency provides to a representative democracy are unity, stability, protection for representative democracy and also protect the people from themselves.  

In a representative democracy, all eligible citizens vote for a representative, these representatives have the responsibility to pass law for them.

A perfect example of representative democracy is the United States, where the eligible voters participate in election to elect the president and member of the congress. The elected officials swore an oath to obey the constitution.  

They also discharge their duties in line with what the people desire and what is best for the country as large. However, for a representative system of government to work perfectly, there are some certain conditions that must be met. In the choosing of leaders, the process must be competitive and very transparent. The people must have confidence in the process (in the case of election, it must not be rigged or predetermined).  

In a representative democracy, there must be communication between the people and the press.

Effective communication between the people and the press would serve as a medium for the people to either criticize the government or praise it.

Also voters have to understand there is meaningful choice between candidates and that policy difference reflected in each candidate.
