This scandal culminated with the resignation of Nixon as the president of U.S. When his connection with that scandal was revealed in August 1974 and his place taken over by the then vice president- Gerald Ford. During this scandal, two constitutional crisis' were created by Nixon: one, the office of the vice president fell vacant, and two, the office of the president also fell vacant. The two crisis were resolved effectively by use of The Constitution. Hence, President Gerald Ford confidently said, “Our Constitution works”, meaning the crisis of filling the two vacancies was easily solved by the Constitution.
