The Greek philosopher Socrates promoted the idea of introspection which is still used by psychologists today. In basic terms, it means "know thyself." The
theory suggests that by understanding our thoughts and emotions, we can achieve self-knowledge. In turn, self-knowledge can help us to lead happier
and healthier lives in a psychological sense.
