As a federalist, I think that building a big national administration wasn't just feasible, but also necessary, in order to “generate a more cohesive society” through strengthening interstate ties. Until this moment, it was widely assumed that a republic could only operate effectively if it was tiny and regional. I disputed this view, claiming that a powerful national democracy will better protect person's individual freedoms.

The federalists also desired to protect the regions' sovereignty or organisation. They proposed a national govt with defined, delegated authorities to do this. The individuals as well as the regions would be in charge of anything not assigned to the central government.
