LADS PLEASE QUICKLY HELP Herodotus wrote this in response to Cambyses’s killing of a sacred calf. However, there is little evidence that he actually did this. The Egyptians kept records of the births and deaths of the sacred calves. They did not record that any calves died when Cambyses invaded.

Herodotus may have believed the story because, as a Greek, he considered the Persians his enemies. He saw Cambyses’s invasions as cruel. He heard many stories about Cambyses insulting his subjects or their beliefs.

Do you think Herodotus’s opinion is valuable, even though it is not based on fact? Why or why not? What does it tell historians about Cambyses?
