George is a peasant who lives in teenth century England. He lives in the same village that he was raised in, and that all of his ancestors lived in for many generations. George and his ancestors were all potato farmers. The land that Georges to grow his crops is part of a manor called Raleigh, owned by Sir John, the lord of the manor George is allowed to work on a plot of Sir John's land, which the lord has specified for John's use, and he is allowed to barter or sell his crops. In exchange for the use of his land, Sir John requires George to give him a portion of his crops or earnings. George is also required to work part of the time in any way Sir John needs, such as bending to Sir John's horses, or helping to maintain his roadways. Sir John's family has owned the manor of Raleigh for over 200 years, and it was passed down to him by birth and tradition. George's family has worked on Sir John's land for the same length of time, and the same traditions which grant land ownership to Sir John, also deny George and his ancestors any possibility of land ownership of the privilege and power that come with them. i. Caste system
ii. Estate system
iii. Class system
