What were some positive and negative effects of the split in american politics in the early 1800s?

The split in American politics in the early 1800s provided a more diversified amount of opinions from the public. Having a two-party system gives voters the leeway to listen to different views regarding certain topics and allows them to relay which path they would like the politicians and government officials to take. This change may be viewed as positive or negative, depending on how one sees it.
