Do you think that informal changes to the constitution are as important as formal amendments?

Yes because A formal amendment to the USA constitution can only be made by a vote of 2/3 of each house of congress and then by the legislatures of 3/4 of the states, or by aconstitutional convention. Once that happens the constitution is changed, and the new provisions are law, just like the rest of the constitution.
