Jillian was in a car accident and sustained a serious head trauma. since the surgery, she has forgotten her name, career, and other vital information about herself. yet, she is still able to talk, know what words mean, and have general knowledge about the world, such as what day it is or who currently is the president of the u. s. this behavior suggests that jillian's is impaired, but her is still functioning.

Based on Jillian’s behavior, we could observe that her episodic memory has been impaired but on the other hand, her semantic memory is still functioning. Episodic memory is where the memory of autobiographical events has been stored that contains an individual’s knowledge about his or herself, emotional events or personal experiences whereas semantic memory is known to be a long term memory in which the information being stored in an individual’s memory is not being drawn from his or her own experiences.
