Qué -- in Spanish language has many meanings, I'm going to write down a few:

1. when it's used to introduce a subordinate clause, it means that.

example:  No lo repitas, yo sé que eso significa.

Don't repeat it, I know what that means.

2. when we want to compare, it has the meaning of than.

example: Es mejor comer verduras que dulces.

It's better to eat vegetables than sweets.

3. Also when we want to compare, it has the meaning of to.

example: Yo prefiero lugares silencios que lugares ruidos.

I prefer silent to loud places.

4. who ( person) -- example --  El hombre que amo está aquí.

which -- ( thing ) example --  El libro que leí está perdido.

Cuáles -- it is the same like the explanation for the cuál, the only difference is that this one is referred to the things in plural form.
