At what acceleration of gravity can you jump into standing-still relative to the ground in a falling elevator? [closed] Simply curious. If you were in an elevator free-falling 50 ft (15.2 m) towards the ground on Earth, and attempted to jump (or rather bounce off its floor since you'd be weightless) close to the ground, you couldn't save yourself from injuries because the Earth's gravity is too high, so you'd just slow your fall but you'd still be too fast to not get injured, right?
I wonder on which planet or moon the gravity is low enough so that you could save yourself by jumping near the ground if falling from 50 ft, assuming the elevator has no roof. Would Areohermian gravity (0.38g) suffice? Or should it be as low as luanr gravity (0.166g)? Of course, this depends on the strength of the falling person, but I'm asking on an approximate value for an average-strong person. Maybe someone knows any formula?
