Why the U. S. Government does not count Hispanics/Latinos, Latinas as a race in America, but only as an ethnicity

Latino isn’t a race.

You’re probably thinking of the stereotypical, tan, black hair, brown eyed Mexicans as Latinos. while yes, they are, that’s not their race, their race would be indigenous, not Latino. The reason for this is because there’s also white and black Latinos! White Mexicans usually come From Spanish blood, and black Dominicans came from the slave trade (according to google). So they are Latino because they are from Latin countries, but their race are completely different.
