How successful was shakespeare early in his career in comparison to other playwrights?

Most books don't really say whether Shakespeare was famous at a young age or not. I would assume the answer your looking for is probably that it is uncertain but his most successful written works were hamlet, romeo and juliet, etc. Those were published later in his life.
