What happens during a lunar eclipse

the moon lies behind Earth , as the Sun, Earth and Moon are closely aligned, the Earth casts a  complete shadow to the Moon.

Explanation:

A lunar eclipse takces place once the Moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow. This can occur given that Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or pretty close aligned , as Earth lieas between the other two. When this happens, a total lunar eclipse forms, Earth completely is blocking sunlight from reaching the Moon.

Therefore, during a lunar eclipses, different tides occur. During the moon's quarter phases the sun and moon work at right angles, causing the changes seen in tides. This resulting in a smaller difference between higher and lower tides and is known as a neap tide. See image below:
