Scientific ethics are a set of moral standards that help to define right and wrong, helping to guide decision making when carrying out scientific research.

Sometimes scientific ethics can be highly complicated and there is often no clear "right" and "wrong", which is why guidelines for best practices are extremely important with controversial research topics like stem cell research.

Ethics guides decision making from what research is allowed to be carried out (e.g. animal testing) to reporting of results (e.g. making sure that results are accurate).

Scientific ethics is so important, that there is an entire branch of biology dedicated to it, called bioethics.
