Exploring sounds around us, measurement and recording of this- how is it done?

In order to measure and record sound accurately and scientifically,  a sound device called Decibel Meter or a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) Meter is often required.

Sounds are collected by the Noise Meter and recorded in units called Decibels (dB). For instance, you have a recording of 0 decibels when it's extremely quiet or 30 decibels if it's a typical quiet rural area.

A motorcycle or a boom box will emit anywhere between 95 to 102 decibels.

The input mechanism for an SPL Meter is a microphone. The microphone captures the sounds, feeds it into the SPL Meter which computes how many decibels the sound it. The results are then displayed on its screen.
