Your 80 year old grandmother, Tess, while putting up dishes on a shelf, fell off a step stool and was unable to get up. She activated her medical lifeline and the emergency medical team arrived at the scene. They noticed her right leg was abducted and she was complaining of pain in her right leg and hip. Tess was taken to the emergency room where an x-ray revealed that the neck of her right femur was fractured. Further x-rays revealed a reduced bone mass in her right hip, femur, and vertebrae. Surgery was done to repair the hip. Your grandmother is now recuperating and having physical therapy treatment daily. 1. What organ and body system was affected by the injury?

3. The physician says she will do an open reduction to repair Tessโ€™s hip. Explain the process of an open reduction?
4. What disease condition did the x-ray of the vertebrae reveal?
5. What is the significance of your grandmother's age and gender?
6. What other body systems may be affected by the fall?
