A single covalent bond is formed when two atoms share one pair of valence electrons.

Explanation: There is two types of bonding, ionic bonding and covalent bonding.

An ionic bond is formed between a metal and a non metal where a metal gives it's valence electron to the non metal. For example, In NaCl, Na is a metal with one valence electron and Cl is a non metal with seven valence electrons. Na gives its one valence electron to Cl and both of these get their nearest noble gas like electron configurations.

On the other hand, A covalent bond is formed by the sharing of electrons between two non metals.

If one pair of valence electrons is shared between two atoms then we call it single covalent bond and it is shown by a single line between two atoms.

Examples:- H-H, Cl-Cl etc

If two pairs of valence electrons are shared between two atoms then it is known as double covalent bond and if three pairs of electrons are shared between two atoms then it is known as triple covalent bond.
