A modern vehicle manufacturer is attempting to get better performance from its engines by moving from a wire controlled throttle to a chip-controlled throttle configuration. The chip-controlled throttle enhancement would allow engine controlled unit (ECU) to upload custom fuel-air ratios(FAR) based on engine temperature and throttle position. The uploaded fuel-air ratio would theoretically allow them to tailor the car’s performance to match the driving style of any driver and create a truly custom feel. The Throttle Position (TPVR) and Engine Temperature (VTR) are sensor inputs obtained directly from the engine.
Throttle Position Sensor The throttle position is indicated by a linear variable resistor (TPVR). TPVR values are limited as follows:
0Ω ≤ TPVR ≤ 10kΩ.
Throttle Position Mappings
0 Ω −→Minimum Throttle
10 kΩ −→Maximum Throttle
Engine Temp Sensor The temperature sensor is also indicated by a linear Variable Temperature Resistor (VTR). VTR values are limited as follows:
0Ω ≤ V T R ≤ 5kΩ
Engine Temperature Mappings
0Ω −→Minimum Engine Temperature (< 32◦F)
5 kΩ −→ Maximum Engine Temperature (> 250◦F)
Engine Temperature Operating Ranges
Low: < 175â—¦F
Normal: 195◦ − 220◦F
High: 240◦F − 250◦F
Cooling System Malfunction > 250 â—¦F
Statement of Work
The company has contacted you to perform the following tasks:
1. Design a Wheatstone Bridge that would convert the TPVR resistance to a continuous voltage between -1V and 1V
2. Design a Voltage Divider circuit to convert the TVR resistance to a continuous voltage between 0V and 2.5V
3. Provide a document detailing the specifics of your Wheatstone Bridge and Voltage Divider design in MATLAB Publisher Format.
Note: All circuit design should assume the availability of a 2.5V source voltage
