Steam enters a turbine operating at steady state at p1 = 6 MPa, T1 = 600oC with a mass flow rate of 305 kg/min and exits as saturated vapor at p2 = 20 kPa, producing power of 4.88 MW. Kinetic and potential energy effects can be ignored. Heat transfer occurs from the turbine to its surroundings which are at T0 = 30oC. Determine the magnitude of the rate of heat transfer, in kW, and the rate of entropy production, in kW/K, within an enlarged control volume that includes the turbine and enough of its surroundings for the heat transfer to occur at T0 = 30oC.

Acompressor compresses a gas, a pump compresses a liquid. for a given pressure ratio, why does it take more work to compress a gas in a compressor than a liquid in a pump? a)- for a given pressure ratio the average specific volume for a gas is much higher than the average specific volume for a liquid. b)- there is no difference. the only difference is the amount of heat generated (not work) c)- for a given pressure ratio the average volurge for a gas is much higher than the average volume for a liquid. d)-there is no difference
