Project: Write Engineering Requirements for Your Product In this lesson, the Apple map application illustrates how a product can fail if it is not effectively benchmarked against the competition and does not meet customer expectations. This is why requirements engineering and the engineering design phase of the product development life cycle is so important. Product failures often can be traced to poor planning at the beginning of the project.

For this assignment, identify a product or a project on which you plan to work. Using the steps in the requirements engineering process, write a paper that:

Describes the problem that your product will solve.
Identify target customers or stakeholders. Provide a brief description of their relevant characteristics.
Do a competitive analysis that identifies two or three competitors and each competitor’s key strengths and weaknesses.
Write a high-level list of engineering requirements for your product. The requirements should identify the customer need(s) that each requirement will address, the metric or measurement of the requirement, and the ideal and minimally acceptable values of the measurement.
