John Muir was a farmer, inventor, naturalist, explorer, writer, and conservationist. He was born on April 21, 1838 in Dunbar, Scotland.

In his novel "Save the Redwoods" John Muir presents the case by presenting mainly two important pieces of information. First, he suggests the fact that the Sequoias are as sacred as a human life. Second, that cutting them down is like killing a human being and we are in consequence committing sin. When he says: "the wrongs done to trees, wrongs of every sort, are done in the darkness of ignorance and unbelief, for when light comes the heart of people is always right" is a call for people to come to their senses to stop the killing of the trees.

Muir presents very convincing arguments to persuade the audience that the redwoods are in danger, for example: "thousands of the finest Sequoias have been felled, blasted into manageable dimensions, and sawed into lumber by methods destructive almost beyond belief".
